But they ignore Japan, their home territory, and instead focus on a time convenient for the US and Europe. However, unlike Sony, Europe and Japan switch importance depending on platform (Wii and DS was stronger in Europe, but 3DS and Switch was stronger in Japan while Gamecube and Wii-U were similar in both). Their strongest and most consistent market by far is the US. Japan is far more important to Nintendo than it is to Sony. Also, it makes it a little more accessible to China, a potential growth market. However, while Japan is almost insignificant to MS, they are competitive in Australia which is in a similar time zone. I'm kind of surprised at MS balancing Japan into their time consideration. They'll focus on Europe in other trade shows.

Also means it's convenient for Chinese viewers.
SONY PRESS CONFERENCE OCTOBER 2017 GAME LIST PSP
Sony makes sense as their home market is important to them even if it is their smallest market by far (only PSP and PS Vita were competitive with the rest of the world). 1 AM Japan time, 9-12 AM US time, 6 PM European time. Nintendo chose a time weighted towards the Europe. 9 AM Japan time, 5-8 PM US time, 3 AM central European. Sony chose a time that is weighted towards Japan. 6 AM Japan time, 2-5 PM US time, 11 PM central European time. MS chose a time that is right in the middle with the US emphasized. What is interesting that is that US is roughly in the middle between European and Asian (Japan most importantly WRT consoles) time zones. Interesting to look at schedule times to see to an extent how important different parts of the world are to each company.Īll them are weighted towards the US as the event is taking place in the US. Like this years E3 for Sony, many thought it was a poor showing, I think it was a great show, just didn't have those killer Wow moments which I think we all understand can't realistically be expected for every conference. Here's the thread for discussing general E3 news and announcements and general interests (photos of a specific gender of game-demonstrators) not covered by the platform specific threads.ĮA: 12:00 PST, 16:00 EST, 20:00 BST, 21:00 CEST. I agree the bar has been raised, which was in large part Sony's doing with those E3 of dreams, but I just get this feeling that maybe some are being a bit too tough on some of these conferences. More so when I think back only a couple a years and the old TGS conferences which were painfully slow and a drag to get through. After actually watching it I've changed my tune, this was a good conference, it was paced really well. However it feels like the general consensuses of the conference online is kinda meh, which I understand, I was in the same mind set when I just read the announcements. The announcements themselves didn't blow my socks off but I was entertained and interested the whole time. Then I watched the EZA reaction and realized damn, this conference is actually pretty good. Couple cool things like FF IX, Left Alive but overall nothing that really got me hyped. For TGS, I didn't see Sony's conference live, I read the big announcements and mentally kinda just said "meh". I guess what I'm trying to get as is if you just look at the announcements of a press conference you might think less of their showing then actually watching it. They would sometimes drag for like 10 mins talking about sales and projection numbers instead of games, now it seems like no one talks for more then 5 mins without going to a trailer or game footage.īasically do you think we judge these conferences too harshly now? Is it fair to expect to always get out brains blow with awesome announcements every time? What says you? I think many may have forgot how freakin' boring these things use to be. While I agree both were lacking those big announcements like a Shenmue 3 or FF VII remake they were both high quality conferences. The pacing of this and even their last E3 conferences were fantastic but many didn't really seem to think either was all that great and I think that's mostly because they didn't deliver those Wow moments like they had in past E3s. Sony is really good at presenting at these trade Press Conferences, however it seems like we all got use to this quality of conferences really quickly and just having a smooth and entertaining conference doesn't seem to be enough to please the masses. I was just watching the reaction from the TGS Sony Press Conferences and I noticed something.
